The Universal Express Pass is best understood as a time-saving add-on. It can give access to shorter Express Pass lanes for selected attractions, and some Express Pass products may include benefits such as guaranteed admission to popular areas.

But it is not the same as a Studio Pass. USJ states that separate theme park admission is required, so you need to have park entry as well.

Express Pass can make sense if:

USJ explains that, depending on park attendance, visitors may need an Area Timed Entry Ticket, an Advance Booking ticket, or a Standby Entry Ticket to enter some areas. Same-day Timed Entry and Standby Entry Tickets are obtained through the official app after you enter the park.

From January 5, 2026, the official app is required to get those same-day Area Timed Entry and Standby Entry Tickets. Depending on conditions, USJ may allow entry without one, but that is not something I would build a first-time visit around.

2. Save each group member’s Studio Pass QR code somewhere you can access even if the connection is slow.
3. Register the park admission tickets for your group in the app. USJ says you can do this before entering to save time.
4. After you enter the park, use the app to check whether timed or standby entry is being issued for your priority area.
5. Keep mobile data and enough phone battery for tickets, the park map, wait times, and app notifications.

The official app says same-day Timed Entry eTickets are only available inside the park and require a valid Studio Pass or Annual Pass registered for that day. Getting an area-entry ticket does not guarantee access to every attraction, restaurant, or shop inside the area.

This is why “I bought a Studio Pass” and “I am guaranteed to enter Super Nintendo World at my ideal time” are not always the same thing.
