Universal Studios Japan prices the Studio Pass by date, in tiers, and for visits from 1 September 2026 it also adjusts prices by date after sales open, based on demand. A quiet Tuesday and a Golden Week Saturday are the same park at meaningfully different prices. A new lower tier of ¥8,400 was introduced, ¥500 below the cheapest price offered in the previous year — but you only get it on the quiet dates.
So the biggest saving available anywhere in this guide is not a coupon, it is moving your visit by one weekday. Avoid Japanese school holidays — Golden Week in early May, mid-July through August, and the New Year period — and check the price on two or three candidate dates before you commit. You will also queue less, which is worth more than the money.
Osaka Food Tour
Most Osaka food tours (Dotonbori, Shinsekai, izakaya crawls) run multiple times a day with several operators, so there’s usually little need to lock this in weeks ahead — but booking a few days out gives you more choice of time slots and guides.

This is the one place in Osaka where a pass genuinely pays, and it is worth doing the sum rather than taking anyone’s word for it. The pass covers unlimited Osaka Metro and city buses plus free entry to around 40 attractions. Official price for the 2026–2027 sales period is ¥3,500 for one day and ¥5,000 for two.
Now put that against the gate prices you would otherwise pay:

Osaka Castle, the Umeda Sky Building and the Tombori River Cruise come to ¥4,700 at the gate. Add roughly five metro rides at ¥190–420 and a realistic day costs about ¥5,700 without a pass. The one-day pass is ¥3,500.
That is roughly ¥2,200 saved in a single day, on an itinerary most first-time visitors do anyway — and you have not touched the other 37 included attractions. Even two attractions plus your transport usually clears the ¥3,500. This is not a pass you have to force; it is a pass that pays for itself before lunch.
⚠️ It is a calendar day, not 24 hours — this is where people lose the value
The pass expires at the end of the calendar day, not 24 hours after you activate it. Buy it for a day you can start at nine in the morning. Activating it when you land at four in the afternoon wastes most of what you paid for, and this single misunderstanding is the reason a lot of people conclude the pass is not worth it.
Two more things. Most included attractions close around 17:00 — the Umeda Sky Building and Tsutenkaku run much later, so save those for the evening and do the castle first. And the pass has been digital-only since the physical card was discontinued in June 2024, so it lives on your phone; check the official list for temporary attraction closures before you buy, because individual venues do go offline for maintenance.

The mistake is treating 40 attractions as a to-do list. People try to extract maximum value, spend the day on the metro, and enjoy none of it. Three good stops is the sweet spot, and it still beats the pass price.
My order: Osaka Castle at opening, when the grounds are quiet and the light is good; lunch and a wander through Shinsekai; the Tombori River Cruise in the late afternoon because Dotonbori’s signs start to matter as it gets dark; then the Umeda Sky Building after sunset, which is open late and is the single best view in the city. That is four attractions, one pass, and a day that does not feel like an errand.
